Tourist Schengen Visa for Philippine Passport

Tourist Schengen Visa for Philippine Passport

Filipinos really have to get visa when planning to travel to Europe as tourist. Like other countries outside South East Asia such as Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, I have prepared a bajillion of requirements to acquire a Visa and a pounding heart of waiting in days if I will be  successfully given a visa or not before enjoying my vacation. Same thing with getting a US visa which I wasn't that lucky enough to be given on my two consecutive tries in year 2009 and haven't given a chance to see the beauty of their country, hoping on my next shot, they could give me a chance, to explore the so called America.

With this, my focus is only for tourist visa application. For other reason obtaining a Schengen visa, different requirement and forms applies, which I could not be a good help for you.

Schengen Visa consist of 26 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

When applying for Schengen Visa or if you plan to visit several countries listed, visa application must be made on the Embassy of the country of your first entry or the country you intend to stay for the longest period or you can ask guidelines on the chosen embassy you wish to get your visa. You can also choose the embassy of the country of your exit point.

In my case Italy is my first point of entry and planning to visit several cities in Italy like Rome, Venice, Milan  and Florence which make Italy as my longest stay for my whole trip compared to other countries included under Schengen.

February 20, 2012 was the pick up date for the courier to collect my documents. Actually I have rescheduled the pick up date for the courier twice already, this is due for the delayed of my hotel confirmation from the traveling agency since I'll be visiting different cities and countries in Europe. I called the PIASI Call Center and gave them my reference number, gave my reason of rescheduling it and gave them the date that the courier could pick up my documents. Call center representative will give you a new reference number, so you have to take it note of it.

Waiting longer for all my documents to be completed and extending the pick up date gave me stressful feeling of waiting my visa (if I'll be given a visa or not) since days really flies so fast and the date of our departure is fast approaching and I'm planning to get a UK visa too. Due to time constraint, conflicts and others we decided not to pursue getting a UK visa for our England tour, hmmp how sad, but its okay, hope to achieve this in the future.

As long I haven't received my approved visa I basically wasn't excited at  all, a mixed feeling of tension and fear of disappointment. I really hate this part but I was really hoping and praying for a good outcome.

The waiting is over and the final verdict has come to an end. Finally I could breathe. Last February 28, 2012, I got a chat message from the addressee where I left all my documents for the courier to pick it up,   that they have received our visa from the Italian Embassy and it has been granted. Yahoo! Just 7 working days from the date my documents has been collected... Finally! I can't wait for the start of my European tour.

For further questions you wish to ask i'm willing to answer and help you in the capacity of my knowledge. It's my pleasure to serve you by leaving a comment.

Hi! From where did you get your insurance? And for how much? Can you recommend the cheapest option for a valid insurance for purposes of Schengen visa application? Thanks!

Grace

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@graceHi Grace,
I got my travel insurance thru the help of the traveling agency that arranged our tour, they got it from Blue Cross. I paid 52Euro for the minumun coverage of 30,000Euro needed for Schengen visa application. I think it's almost the same with other accredited insurance company.

Hi Karen!

Just wanted to ask..
I lodged my visa via the italian embassy last April 19th and still haven't heard back from them. You said you got your 7 working days after you sent it? Did you actually receive your passport na or you were advised by the embassy lang? I'm worried kasi our planned date is so near already! :s thanks!

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@sam
Hi Sam,
Yup I got my passport and some documents back after 7 working days delivered by the courier on my given address. Since you have just lodged your application for a couple of days, maximum is 15 working days. If still you haven't received or heard from them after 15 working days you may check your application by calling the embassy itself.

samantha said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Thanks for the info. I'll try to call the embassy on Monday or hopefully our passports will arrive by then with an approved visa! *fingers crossed* I was advised by the embassy to contact them via email after 7 working days (which was yesterday) if our visas were approved or not since we're planning to leave on the 7th of May already but didn't get a reply.They usually reply quickly to my queries before and since I wasn't able to receive a response from them, Im beginning to panic!!

@samantha
Your very much welcome. If you passed all proper documents needed for your visa application, I think there would be no problem but anyway Good luck and hope you could make it.

Anonymous said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

I am on the same boat. My requirements were picked up last Apr 20th and haven't gotten my passport back yet.
@samantha : any update on your visa?

xoxo,
Grey

@Anonymous

Hi Grey!

You still have 5 more working days to wait but you may call the Italian Embassy for the status of your application.

this is very helpful!:)
i have some questions to ask..
-do they need the original copies of the credit card statements and bank statements?
-did you place the manager's check inside the envelope together with your documents
-do i really need to mail my passpprt together with the other documents..im worried it'll get lost
-did you place your photo in the applic form already
-is it ok for the applic forms to be hand written

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Thank you!
-xerox copy of your credit card and a xerox copy of 3 consecutive month of your credit card statement. Bank statement or bank certification, this is printable from the bank.. you can request for it.
- Yes. Manager's check inside the envelope with your documents.
- Passport should be included inside the envelope with your documents. Its safe since its an assigned courier from the Italian Embassy itself.
- Yes attached photo on the application
- hand written application is okay just make sure handwriting is clear and readable.

Marian said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Hi, Karen. I just want to know if I need to make a partial payment for a packaged tour and make a full payment of my R/T airfare before applying for a visa? Or will all these be taken care of by an agency?

Thanks! Followed u on Twitter, too, btw!

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Marian

Hi Marian! Thank you for following me on twitter, I've followed you too.

If you are joining in a group tour by a traveling agency, you can let the agency help you guiding proper documentation needed and ask them all documentation needed to pass.

Regarding for the packaged tour and the RT ticket that depend on the travel agency your into, usually they will ask for down payments for their own guarantee and pay them full after visa and tour package has been settle, but that depends, since every travel agency has their own rules and system.

Hi Just wanna ask if its okay that i only submitted confirmed flights booking and confirmed hotel tho dont have the tour details? coz i just booked online. 8 days in rome and 4 days in paris with a cofirmed hotel and confirmed flights from manila - rome, rome - paris , and paris- manila. And also the other documents the call center agent asked me to provide. im just worried if kailangan ba thru travel agency and with tour details?
My dox was picked last june 11, and still praying for the res

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Hi! It is not necessarily to join a group tour thru traveling agency. Its just a hassle free on my part if a traveling agency will fix everything on my behalf.

If you plan your tour personally you can do it yourself. On my part the traveling agency prepared a detailed Itinerary for the embassy, the call center representative told me that as one of their requirements.

Did they not mention a detailed itinerary for your requirements?

You can make your own tour details like on day 1 you plan to go to this tourist spot, on day 2 and so on just to let the embassy give an idea of your plans or itinerary.

If they didn't mention it as one of your requirement, I think that would be fine since you have your confirmed ticket and confirmed hotel booking. It would be a plus factor if you have prepared it.

Anyway good luck and I hope you could update me with the outcome.

Taken from Embassy of Italy in Manila website:

Effective June 1st, 2012, a service & handling fee of PHP 1,200.00 per applicant will be applied by outsource service provider PIASI (Philippine Audiotext Services Inc.) to all visa applicants who wish to submit their visa applications to the Embassy of Italy in Manila by courier service. This service fee is non-refundable and is exclusive of the applicable visa fee. All fees (service fee + visa fee) must be paid by Manager’s check payable to PIASI being the only acceptable form of payment.

For more information, please contact 02-845-9200.

Hi, again ms. Karen :)
Nope the call center didnt mentioned about the detailed itinerary only the confirmed ticket and hotel.
u think when can i able tO call them or follow up my application? Pwede kaya ako tumwag sknila on monday khit pang 7days pa lang just to inquire? Or better to wait til the 14th day?
My intend date of dep kasi is on 24th of this month.. anyway wait n pray n lang ako na maging okay. Ya sure i'll post here kung ano man maging result. :) Ty

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Hi. You may call them for the status of your visa if you want, I think thats okay. Since you send them your confirmed ticket i'm pretty sure they are aware of your departure date, it just that its really hard on the waiting time part. "parang binibitin ka" :) since its getting near.

Hope to hear good news from you!

Anonymous said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

hi again.. diko parin nakukuha visa ko and sa june 24 na ang flight ko.. last thurs they email me to submit my bank statements (for the past 6 months) tho i submitted my 3 months bank statements. kaya i went to my bank and requested right away 6 months of bank statements and i fax it the same day. I called the premium line yesterday friday to ask about my visa application and stil on processing pa daw.
questions: Shall i change my departure date or call them first today (saturday), nag rerelease kaya sila ng visa on saturday?
kapag nag change ba ako ng departure date need ko pa isend saknila yung air ticket?
you think if they asked for additional documents there'S A possiblity na grant nila ako or will they refused it coz my intend of travel will passed by very soon.
Thank you

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Hi! Your supposed flight would be tomorrow already but still no visa! :( tension!

Anyway, I don't know if they are releasing visa on saturday, just hope to arrived by today, hopefully!

Changing your departure ticket date would be costly, In my opinion I rather wait for the outcome from the embassy and that's the time I'll change my departure ticket. You should call the embassy today for the status and follow up them, seek help directly to them about your departure ticket matter.

Well, I really don't know if asking additional documents would be a great possibility to grant your visa or not. Just pray for a positive outcome.

hi, i would just like to ask, what if my mom who is a resident alien in italy would invite me andwould shoulder all the expenses, will they still require me a certificate of employment? thank you...

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Hi! I think you still need to pass a certificate of employment if your employed regardless whether your being invited with all expenses paid or not..

Anonymous said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

ask ko lang panu if 1mons lang ung bank ok lang kaya? approved kaya un? my visa n ako ng italy 2006 and UK ng 2009.

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Hi! If you mean of 1month bank is regarding to the bank statement, base on the requirements needed, a 3months bank statement. So its better to following the said requirments to avoid conflicts.

@Anonymous

Hi! I have no idea which embassy is the easiest way to get schengen visa, as I have only experience getting it at Italian Embassy. That would depend on your point of entry and point of exit, you may consider getting visa on the country of your point of entry or exit.

As long as you have all proper requirements needed and documentation, there will always be a chance to get a visa.

Anyway Good Luck!

Hi po Ms Karen, ito po case ko. i'm at my 4th yr in college, don't have ITR but I have my own online business. I am currently saving up and my target is Php 250,000. I am currently halfway na po but the big problem is I don't have ITR. Baka po magtaka ung consul where I got the money? Pahelp naman po ate baka may advise kayong mabibigay sakin :( I will be traveling with my dad who has ITR but it shows little income kasi he is a free lancer. More convincing po ba ung bank account kesa ITR? Thank you po in advance!

Karen Jardeleza said... Simply Me[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

@Anonymous

Sorry for the late reply. I've been off from my blog site for more than a month.

On my personal understanding, since your still a student and don't have an ITR I think that's understandable, bank certification can be already, just support a document that you are a student and currently engaging on an online business.

Since you traveling with your dad, your dad proof of income such as ITR and Bank certification will be your support as well as for your dad.

Just take the ITR and bank certificate regardless of the amount being shown, just make sure to pass all proper documents needed. Just try and take a little risk. Take chances you'll never know. Good Luck!

Plus, I've been in few different countries like Malaysia, hongkong, South africa and singapore. Wel I used to work in singapore last year too. But now im back home (Philippines)

Please help. THanks.

Great article. Thanks for the info, this is really a helpful post. BTW, if anyone needs to fill out a Schengen Visa Application form, I found a blank form in this site PDFfiller. This site also has several related tax forms that you might find useful.
