Palawan: Subterranean River National Park (Underground River)

From Puerto Princesa City, Palawan took us two hours landtrip to reach Sabang Wharf. Sabang Wharf is the gateway to Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park where Underground River is located.
Sabang Wharf
Puerto Princesa Underground River has been declared as the official nominee of the Philippines to the new 7 Wonders of Nature.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of the city center of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. The National Park is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range on the northern coast of the island. The City Government of Puerto Princesa has managed the National Park since 1992. It is also known as St. Paul's Subterranean River National Park, or St. Paul Underground River. The entrance to the Subterranean River is a short hike from the town of Sabang. Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is one of the 28 finalists for the "New Seven Wonders of Nature" competition. (Wikipedia)

A short boat ride from Sabang Wharf to reach the Subterranean River National Park.

Upon arriving at the National Park we registered our name at the logbook and a short walk path / forest to the underground river, where boat and local guides are waiting.

Before hopping into the boat, we wore safety equipment provided such as helmet and lifejacket. A entertaning and well informed local guides/paddlers will guide and explain through out the journey in the underground river. Ideal for silent appreciation of the cave. Guides will explain everything, discover and appreciate the  unique formation of nature's underground river.
Entrance of the Underground River
In the waters surrounding the underground river, sea cows (Dugong) and Hawksbill turtles can often be seen basking on the surface. The subterranean river itself cuts through a cave strewn with stalactites, stalagmites, columns and all manner of cave formations. Visitors can enjoy and appreciate without worrying about causing harm to this wonder of the natural world.

How long was the trip all in all? Kaya ba ng half a day kase yung agent nakausap namin is pinipilit na kaya. Ayaw naman namin na minamadali kame. Thank you.

@Ann D
From Puerto Princesa to Sabang took us 2 hours drive, from sabang to the river national park, a short boat ride more or less 20 minutes, then the underground tour itself for 1 hour and additional time for waiting, strolling and picture taking at the park. Most of the underground river tour has lunch included, lunch are mostly at Sabang area, 1 hour is not bad unless your skipping the lunch.
In our case we left Puerto Princesa City at around 7am and arrived back at 3pm.
Consider other group that might join you in the underground river tour. Since it's a long drive and the way is a zig zag road, it is still best not to be time pressure for safety.
